# Creative fatigue: why ads stop working

> Creative fatigue is when the same audience has seen an ad too often, so results drop and costs rise. How Meta flags it and how to refresh a jingle ad.

# What is creative fatigue?

Creative fatigue is the drop in results that happens when the same audience has seen one ad too many times: fewer people engage, and each result costs more. Small businesses meet it early, because a local or niche audience is small and a modest budget can show everyone the same video within days.

## How Meta measures it

Meta's help center describes two Delivery column statuses for ad sets with one creative. When cost per result is higher than ads you ran in the past but less than twice as much, you see **Creative limited**. When it is twice as much or more, you see ** Creative fatigue**. Meta says it counts recent exposures of the same image or video, including from other campaigns from your Page, and it can warn you before publishing if it predicts fatigue in the first 7 days.

Outside Meta, watch for the same pattern by hand: hook rate sliding, frequency climbing, cost per result rising on an ad whose audience and budget did not change.

## Refreshing a singing ad without losing the song

Meta's first recommendation is a new ad with an image or video that is materially different from the original. For a jingle ad that does not mean a new song. Keep the tune and the line with your name, because recognition is the reason you made a jingle, and change what people see first:

- a new opening line from the brief (SingingAds writes three to pick from),
- a different look for the same character: cinematic, UGC, 3D, anime or clay,
- new shots for a different use of the product, like gift season or travel.

## An illustrative example

Illustrative example: a made-up candle maker, Wick and Hollow, spends a small daily budget on one 15-second 3D ad to a city audience. Cost per sale holds for ten days, then climbs, and Ads Manager shows Creative limited. The owner keeps the original running, as Meta suggests may maximize results, and adds a clay version with a new first line about rainy evenings. Costs settle again.

## Common mistakes

- Changing only the caption text or the button. That is not materially different to the viewer.
- Throwing away a song people have started to recognize, instead of re-dressing it.
- Panicking over one bad day. Fatigue is a trend over several days, not a single dip.
- Shrinking the audience to save money, which brings fatigue sooner.

## What it can’t do

- Meta's creative fatigue status is only available for some ad set setups, so many advertisers have to spot fatigue from their own numbers.

Paste your product page. SingingAds writes a jingle about it, sings it and cuts a vertical video ad, using only claims your page makes.

From $15 for one ad, or $59 for about 6 thirty-second video ads. Credits never expire. Made with AI; you approve every word before anything is sung.

## What it costs

## Questions

**How long before a video ad gets creative fatigue?**

There is no fixed number of days. It depends on audience size, budget and how distinctive the ad is; small audiences with steady spend tire fastest.

**Should I pause an ad that shows Creative fatigue?**

Meta notes that keeping the original ad active instead of pausing it may maximize results, alongside launching a materially different new ad. Watch both and cut the original once the new one carries the results.

**Does frequency tell me an ad is fatigued?**

Rising frequency is a warning, not proof. Fatigue is confirmed when frequency rises and cost per result rises with it.

**Will a new song fix creative fatigue?**

It can, but you lose the recognition the old song built. Changing the pictures and opening line around the same tune is usually the cheaper first move.
