# Do you have to label AI-generated ads?

Often, yes. TikTok's ad policy requires an AI label or clear disclaimer on ads with completely AI-generated images, video or audio, and rejects or restricts undisclosed ones. YouTube asks creators to disclose AI-generated music that is the main focus of a video. Meta requires disclosure for realistic AI video and audio in organic posts. Google Ads added an AI label setting in July 2026.

Updated 17 Oct 2026

## TikTok: mandatory for AI-generated ads

TikTok's "Misleading and false content" ad policy (updated April 2026) allows AI-generated and significantly edited content only if you apply the AIGC label or add a clear disclaimer, caption, watermark or sticker. It counts content with completely AI-generated images, video or audio, and says to label when in doubt. Undisclosed AI content gets the ad rejected or restricted. In Ads Manager, the disclaimer toggle has an AI-generated content option that shows a text label at the bottom of the ad.

For organic posts, TikTok's help center encourages labeling anything completely generated or significantly edited by AI, requires it for realistic content, and says turning the setting on will not affect distribution. Its definition of AI-generated content includes cartoon and anime styles.

## Meta: organic disclosure, ad labels from Meta’s tools

For organic posts, Meta's Community Standards require its AI disclosure tool whenever you post photorealistic video or realistic-sounding audio that was digitally created or altered, with penalties if you do not. For ads, Meta's help center says it adds "AI info" to ad images made or materially edited with Meta's own generative AI features (next to "Sponsored" when an AI photorealistic person appears), and that ads made with third-party AI tools are not labeled automatically. Ads about social issues, elections or politics must disclose digitally created or altered media, including from third-party tools.

## YouTube and Google Ads

YouTube requires creators to disclose realistic AI content, and its list of what must be disclosed includes AI-generated music, and content that "creates music that's the main focus of the video". You set "AI use" to Yes in YouTube Studio during upload. YouTube says fully animated, non-realistic visuals do not need disclosure, and that disclosure alone will not limit a video's audience or monetization.

Google Ads posted an update on 9 July 2026: you may now add AI labels inside image and video ads, an AI label setting was rolling out across Google Ads and Merchant Center, and Google notes that regulations in the EU, India and New York require labels on certain AI-generated ad assets. Google adds that using the setting does not by itself ensure legal compliance.

## What we recommend for a singing ad

Label it, everywhere. In a realistic look the pictures are realistic AI video, which TikTok, Meta and YouTube all ask you to disclose. In an animated look the pictures may be cartoon-like, but the voice is AI-generated and sounds real, and that is the part TikTok and YouTube name directly. [SingingAds](https://singingads.com/how-it-works) offers realistic looks (cinematic, UGC, studio) and animated ones (3D, anime or clay), and every song carries Google's SynthID watermark, an inaudible mark that identifies AI audio, which is why we suggest turning the label on whichever look you post. Our [AI disclosure page](https://singingads.com/ai-disclosure) says how we handle this, and SynthID explains the watermark.

## Does a label hurt performance?

The platforms say no, in their own words: TikTok says turning on its AI-generated content setting will not affect distribution if the post follows its guidelines, and YouTube says disclosure alone will not limit audience. A rejected ad costs far more than a small label. For the specs that sit alongside these rules, see the TikTok and Reels spec guides.

## Questions

**Do I need to label an AI jingle if the video is a cartoon?**

On TikTok, yes for ads: completely AI-generated audio counts. On YouTube, AI music that is the focus of a video is listed as needing disclosure.

**Will Meta label my ad automatically?**

According to Meta's help center, only if it was made or materially edited with Meta's own generative AI features. Ads made with third-party tools are not labeled automatically, so disclose where Meta asks you to.

**What happens if I do not label an AI ad on TikTok?**

TikTok's ad policy says undisclosed AI-generated content will be rejected or restricted.

**Does the AI label reduce reach?**

TikTok says its AI setting will not affect distribution of compliant posts, and YouTube says disclosure alone will not limit audience.

**Do I need to disclose AI help with the script?**

YouTube lists AI help with scripts, outlines and captions as not needing disclosure. The label is about the content people see and hear.

**Are there laws behind these labels?**

Google cites AI rules in the EU, India and New York that require labels on certain AI ad assets. Check your own market with a lawyer.
